A sun outage is a temporary interruption in satellite signals caused by interference from solar radiation. The interference is caused when the sun is in direct line with a communication satellite and the sun’s radiation overwhelms the satellite signal.
- How do they affect my TV-viewing experience
During this time, you may experience interference with picture quality and sound when watching television. Sun outages do not affect internet or phone service.
- When do they occur?
Sun outages happen during the spring and fall seasons between the hours of 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- How long do they last?
Sun outage interruptions can last anywhere from less than a minute to up to 10 minutes.
